Currently, humanity knows 8 million species. However, scientists have estimated that the number of plant and animal species on Earth could be as high as 20 billion.
This means that most species are still unknown. countries more diverse than India are located in South America, such as Brazil, and in countries southeast of India, such as Malaysia and Indonesia. Biodiversity is now increasingly valued for its unimaginable value.
International initiatives such as the World Heritage Convention and the Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) aim to protect and support biologically rich natural areas and conserve and restore threatened species and habitats
Brazil is not just among the 10 most biodiverse countries and one of the 12 mega-biodiverse regions in the world. It is a country with the most biodiversity on earth. Between the Amazon rainforest and the Mata Atlântica forest, the wooded, savannah-like Cerrado, the massive inland swamp known as the Pantanal, and a host of other terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, Brazil leads the world in plant and amphibian species.
